The History of Bauer’s

Who We Are:

Gary has operated his cleaning company since June of 1980. He started out in Eastern Shasta County, in the intermountain area, as an owner/operator of a carpet and upholstery cleaning company. Together with his wife Christine, they raised their two boys, Jeff & Garret, in a small town atmosphere. In this environment, you have to do a good job, or people will not do business with you and you will go out of business. After 17 years there, Gary established a very profitable cleaning company, with an outstanding reputation for excellence. Even though he lived in an isolated rural area, Gary made a commitment to develop his textile cleaning abilities, for the benefit of his clients, to exceed the credentials of all other cleaning companies throughout Northern California. This meant traveling to the bay area to attend various work shops and pass written examinations, even attending the Senior Carpet Inspectors course in Los Angeles, California, and passing a 10 hour exam with a score high enough to teach the class.

It was during this time that Gary was first introduced to the world of oriental rugs, which he has grown to have a passion for. “I would take the rugs to my home, and shampoo them, followed by a steam rinse. Upon rolling the rug up after it was dry, I noticed sand falling out as the rug was rolled, face up. This is not a good sign. So, I researched the field of rug washing, and found a veteran entrepreneur, like myself, who had developed a superior washing system for delicate oriental rugs. After attending this very prestigious school, Gary immediately returned to Shasta County, and started making plans for implementing his own hand-washing rug plant.

In the spring of 1995, Bauer’s opened their own oriental rug washing plant at 5014, Mountain Lakes Blvd., Redding, California. We have been at this location up to the placing of our website, in April, of 2004. We now have plans of building our own building at 1062 North Market Street, in the fall of 2004. Jeff, our son, has joined our company in September of 1996. He has learned everything from his dad, and plus some. Jeff, also attended the oriental rug school in Berthoud, Colorado, in 1997, as well as numerous schools throughout the U.S.

Today, Gary and Jeff, each share the prestigious designation of I.I.C.R.C. MASTER CLEANER, and Oriental Rug Specialist. Jeff has expanded into leather cleaning, as well. That means you can expect the absolute best spot and stain removal humanly possible, bar none.
